Port Elizabeth police have confirmed that a case of murder is now under investigation following the discovery of the decomposed remains of a woman in bushes in Booysens Park earlier on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the remains were found by a man who was walking his dog.
The body has since been identified as the 17-year-old Shannon Fourie who was reported missing in December.
The investigating officer told Algoa FM News that she was identified by her shoes and a ring. He added that a DNA test will also be conducted.
Naidu says they are investigating a case of murder and urged the public to come forward with any information that might help them make an arrest.
Anyone who can assist should contact the Bethelsdorp police.
