Thornhill police are appealing to the public for help identifying a man whose body washed ashore on Sunday morning.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says an angler fishing between the Gamtoos and the Van Staden’s River Mouth spotted the body on the beach.
She says the race and age of the man could not be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition.
An inquest docket has been opened for investigation.
Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in identifying the body or may know of anyone who may have drowned or had gone missing, to contact the Thornhill police.
