A 21-year-old man, convicted of raping a 75-year-old woman, has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment in the Tsomo Regional Court.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha says Samkelo Tshayisa was sentenced on Monday.
He says Tshayisa grabbed the elderly woman from behind, strangled her and raped her in Ngqamakhwe in May last year.
Manatha says community members chased and arrested Tshayisa.
The case was investigated by the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
