Deal Party kidnapping: Still no ransom claimed

Police in Gqeberha have confirmed that a ransom demand has not yet been made for the safe return of Rajathi Gnanaraj.

The 41-year-old Gnanaraj was kidnapped in full view of her husband, outside her workplace in Deal Party at 17:45 on Friday night.

The couple were sitting in their vehicle in Grahamstown Road when they were approached by seven armed suspects.

According to police, the suspects smashed the vehicle's window when Gnanaraj would not open the car door.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said some of the suspects pulled the woman into a silver Corolla, before speeding off in the direction of New Brighton.

The other suspects got into a red Haval and drove off, leaving the woman's husband behind.

The motive for the kidnapping is unclear at this stage.
