Nelson Mandela Bay's newly appointed Mayor, Danny Jordaan, says he is not a puppet.
Jordaan was speaking at a media briefing on Friday after he was officially sworn in as a metro Councillor along with soon to be Deputy Mayor Biks Ndoni and ANC Chief Whip, Litho Suka.
The ANC will also effect changes in the Mayoral committee, including restructuring several Directorates, as it looks to hold onto the Metro in next year's Municipal elections.
Jordaan responds to a question surrounding criticism that he is not in touch with the community and that he is just a high profile person brought to Port Elizabeth to attract votes.
"I've never been a puppet in my life and I'm not going to start being a puppet at this old age of mine. I have always done things that I believe in, so don't worry about that question."
He will also remain on as SAFA president while dedicating his time to the metro.
Jordaan responds to criticism over him holding two positions, saying that the two jobs story is completely false and that he is a volunteer in football.
"My Vice President is the Mayor of Bela-Bela, one of our executive members is a central executive member of EFF and a member of parliament. In the Western Cape there are members of the mayoral committee in Cape Town who are executive members of our structure there. So all over there are these things." says Jordaan.
