The Bumbane Great Palace of the jailed Abathembu King, Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, has been vandalised, Eastern Cape police confirmed on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said that police were informed my family relatives that the palace in Mthatha had been vandalised.
“We visited the scene today [Tuesday] and according to the family members nothing was taken or stolen from the house,” said Fatyela.
Fatyela said when police visited the scene with family members they saw that the doors and the ceiling boards were broken.
Fatyela added that it was previously raining and goats probably entered the house through the broken doors leaving droppings behind.
He said according to family members no one was currently residing at the premises.
Police are investigating a case of housebreaking and malicious damage to property.
Dalindyebo is serving a 12-year sentence at the East London Maximum Correctional Centre after being found guilty of kidnapping, assault arson and defeating ends of justice.
