Dagga valued at nearly R1m found in Grahamstown

Members of the Grahamstown Highway Patrol have seized a large quantity of compressed dagga with a street value of nearly R1m.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, says police members were conducting a vehicle check point on the N2 on Thursday night, when they stopped an Opel Corsa bakkie that was travelling from Mthatha towards Port Elizabeth.

On searching the bakkie, they found a total of 23 bags of compressed dagga stacked in the back of the vehicle and behind the seats.

The driver and his passenger, aged 24 and 35, were arrested on the spot and will appear in court soon on drugs possession charges.
