The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape says schools in the Lusikisiki district are overflowing due to a shortage of teachers.
DA MPL, Edmund van Vuuren, says many schools in the Lusikisiki district are battling to cope with class sizes of between 120 and 140 learners.
He says this is due to the Education Department's refusal to extend the contracts of temporary teachers.
Earlier this week Van Vuuren called on the Bhisho Education Department to withhold the salaries of those teachers who are in excess and refusing to move to other schools.
He says just 145 temporary teachers will have their contracts extended in Lusikisiki.
