The DA says it is saddened by the passing of George Councillor, Lulamile Xesi after his house burnt down on Sunday morning.
The party's Chairperson of the East Region in the Western Cape, Jaco Londt says Xesi served the community of Ward 11 in the George Municipality.
He says the cause of the blaze is not yet known and the DA will monitor the investigation closely.
Londt says Xesi served as an ANC Councillor from 2000 until 2006 prior to joining the DA as a member and activist in 2011.
