DA marches on City Hall over Nelson Mandela Bay filth

More than 100 Democratic Alliance members in Port Elizabeth marched on City Hall to protest against illegal dumping and rubbish becoming a health hazard in Nelson Mandela Bay.

DA caucus leader in the municipality Retief Odendaal says illegal dumping in streets and public open spaces had reached intolerable proportions, particularly in disadvantaged communities.

"A very few of our disadvantaged communities has got a weekly collection service and one of our action plan is to roll out a weekly collection service to all communities in Nelson Mandela Bay." says Odendaal.

Odendaal said the DA would be presenting their 10 point plan to eradicate illegal dumping in the Metro to municipal officials.

"Our city is covered in building rubble and garbage and we want the mayor to act. Now is the time to act and to clear our city of all the filth that consumes our communities."
