DA leader, Helen Zille's arrival at a polling station in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, led to a commotion when she was confronted by a group of ANC women.
The enraged women shouted at Zille and said that the DA was not allowed to campaign at the voting station.
The women said that they wanted her to leave and accused Zille of not following the rules set out by the Independent Electoral Commission.
Zille, who remained calm throughout, said she expected temperatures to run high during the elections.
"Those ladies were obviously very excited and I think they are very worried about the DA's performance in the Eastern Cape. The DA is going to do very well in the Eastern Cape compared to previous results." said Zille.
The DA leader was allowed inside the polling station, and according to ANC official, Luvuyo Makwabi, they will now be lodging an official complaint.
"According to the rules, conditions and terms she is not allowed to be where she was now. As you can see our tables are far from the tape, but she is being allowed to come in there and do exactly which we were told not to do. We are going to lodge a protest against it through the IEC." said Makwabi.
Meanwhile, Zille, who cast her ballot in Cape Town before arriving in Port Elizabeth at midday.
She expressed her disappointment with hiccups experienced in the Mother City.
"I was very upset this morning I have to be honest, that so many polling stations in Cape Town did not open on time, ridiculous things like no ballot papers and no scanning machines. It's really unbelievable to me, that having so long to organise elections people can't open at 07:00 with all the equipment, I don't know how it happens, who's managing this?" said Zille
