The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has formally laid charges against a member of the SA Democratic Teachers Union.
The charges were laid at the Humewood police station in Port Elizabeth by DA MPL, Edmund van Vuuren.
This follows an incident on Friday when a teacher and chairperson of Sadtu's Hewu branch in the Whitelsea area allegedly tried to run over DA parliamentary leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko.
She had embarked on a walk of solidarity to highlight the plight of many Eastern Cape children who walk long distances to school every day.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Alwin Labans, says a docket of attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving has been opened.
He says the docket will be transferred to Queenstown police for further investigation.
