The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has condemned the murder of a former party member in Kariega.
Provincial leader, Andrew Whitfield, said Justice Jama, was gunned down in his home in Greenfields on Saturday night by “callous and cowardly criminals” in an apparent hit to silence him.
He said Jama was due to testify as a witness in a murder trial.
Whitfield said his murder highlights that violent crime was spiralling out of control in Nelson Mandela Bay, and the utter contempt that these criminals have for the rule of law.
“Mr Jama’s death is another reminder of the utter failings of Police Minister Bheki Cele.”
He questioned how many more people must pay with their lives before President Cyril Ramaphosa admits that his minister of police has failed the people of the country.
Whitfield said the DA was calling on the police to take swift and immediate action to ensure that these criminals are brought to justice and face the full might of the law.
