DA investigates IPTS saga

The Democratic Alliance Shadow Minister of Transport, Manny De Freitas, says Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and ANC authorities are creating an environment where they are less transparent regarding the Intergrated Public Transport System.

De Freitas was speaking at a media briefing at the Markman depot in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

He said the IPTS boss Advocate Mhleli Tshamase was no longer an employee of the municipality and is now a contractor - which provides less opportunities for questions to be asked.

"People are not prepared to take responsibility, they are taking every opportunity they can to milk themselves personally and financially and make as much money as they can but without delivering the goods. I understand NCOP has committed to meet with The Department of Transport to get more information in this regard and I understand that it has still not been done. So we are are getting our delegates in The National Council of Provinces to find out why this is not been done and what are they doing about it that this project gets on the road and actually starts working." said De Freitas.
