Nelson Mandela Bay DA-councillor Stanford Slabbert says he will appeal the party's decision to strip him of his membership.
Slabbert was axed after being found guilty of contravening the DA's Federal Constitution by distributing a racist e-mail about president Jacob Zuma.
He has five days to lodge the appeal.
DA provincial leader, Athol Trollip, says as a party they want to espouse the value of non-racialism.
"We want to send out a very strong message that we want to build a rainbow society in this country and that we cant tolerate any form of racism or bigotry or any other kind of prejudice and unfortunately for councilor Slabbert he did that and have to suffer the consequences" he said.
Reacting to his axing, Slabbert said he's deeply saddened by the decision to terminate his party membership.
He says he remains fully committed to a just and fair society and has always given 100 percent to the Democratic Alliance.
Slabbert was axed by the party for distributing an e-mail that said president Jacob Zuma had more wives than brain cells and also described the ANC as dumb idiots who wait for hand-outs.
