The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has called on Premier Noxolo Kiviet to stop talking and put an end to so-called insider-trading.
DA leader in the Bhisho Legislature, Bobby Stevenson, says the auditor-general has noted that civil servants doing business with government were awarded R94.4m worth of government tenders at local government level in the 2010/2011 financial year.
He says Kiviet has in the past promised to put a stop to civil servants doing business with government but has yet to act swiftly.
Stevenson says firm action is needed as a matter of urgency.
"This is what I call double dipping it is preventing other businesses from getting opportunities that they should and small businesses are the biggest job creators in this province and there should be equal playing fields so they can compete fairly and civil servants doing business with the province should be outlawed, insider trading is wrong and it should be stopped" Stevenson said.
