DA bemoans awarding of Buffalo City housing contract

The Democratic Alliance in Buffalo City says it will be asking the auditor general to review the awarding of a housing contract which it says did not go through a competitive bidding process.

Buffalo City reportedly terminated the original Potsdam housing project contract with Khumbula Property Services for its failure to comply with project deliverables and on Tuesday awarded it to Imvusa Trading CC.

DA chief whip in Buffalo City, Kevin Mileham, says while the municipality's supply chain management policy allows it to dispense with official procurement processes where there is urgency or emergency, he's concerned that only one company was asked to quote for the contract.

He says Buffalo City failed to offer evidence of urgency or an emergency related to the housing contract.

"Why were we forced to go a non competitive route, I do believe that the municipality needs to follow it's own rules and part of those rules are that we need to have a open and transparent bid process where competition is allowed to flourish and we can choose the best contractor for the job" Mileham said.
