The University of Fort Hare (UFH) opened a case with East London police last week following a landmark cyber forensics investigation implicating current and former employees as well as a member of the UFH Council.
In a statement, Fort Hare says the individuals are implicated in manufacturing and distributing lies and defamatory allegations through unsolicited e-mail dumps.
Spokesperson, JP Roodt says Fort Hare has opened criminal cases against six individuals.
He says they've presented authorities with evidence of the detailed cyber forensics investigation.
This includes the names and e-mail addresses, content of e-mails and e-mail exchange between the parties allegedly involved.
Roodt says for several months, the UFH's management had to endure crude slander and cyberbullying by unknown cyber mudslingers
He says defamatory and untruthful e-mail reports slandering UFH senior officials were leaked and targeted the e-mail inboxes of members of the UFH Council, DHET and media.
The University has also laid a charge against its suspended chief transport officer, who reported to the late fleet manager Petrus Roets, a current member of the council, an employee in the University's finance department, a former
Marketing and Communications director as well as a retired driver in the UFH fleet who the cyber author allegedly consulted before sending emails.
