A case of theft has been opened at the Humewood police station in Gqeberha after a man allegedly stole money from a waitress at a popular beachfront restaurant.
Police Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says it is alleged that on Wednesday the 17th of April, a waitress left cash allegedly paid by a customer unattended for a few seconds when a man seized the opportunity to help himself to an amount of R1100.00
She says moments later he drove off in his grey VW Polo.
CCTV footage of the theft was sent to Algoa FM News where the suspect is seen stealing the money just by the outside counter at "Something Good" in Summerstrand.
In the video, you can see how the waitress frantically returns to the counter looking for the money, opening all the booklets, while the suspect casually stands around swinging his car keys in his right hand.
The man, whose name is known to Algoa FM News, then casually asks for his charger which he used to charge his phone.
Captain Janse van Rensburg requested the media not to show the suspect's face until he had been arrested.
