Customer Care number lands taxi driver in hot water

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport Customer Care number has landed one taxi driver a R1500 fine for texting while driving.

According to Chief Traffic Officer Mbaleni, at around 8pm on Tuesday, a passenger called in to report a taxi driver that was texting whilst driving on route to Cape Town.  

Mbaleni says the driver was stopped outside Cradock and was fined R1500 for the offence.

All the passengers on the taxi agreed to be witnesses against the recklessness committed by the driver.

Mbaleni applauded the passengers for standing up against reckless driving and make use of emergency number to report the taxi driver to authorities.
