Curtain comes down on Oscar Pistorius trial

A Pretoria man who suffered a similar tragedy to that of June and Barry Steenkamp is at the Pretoria High Court to support the couple during sentencing proceedings in the Oscar Pistorius Case.

Businessman Freddy Sithole was in Port Elizabeth earlier this week when his daughter's killer was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment in the city's high court.

The Steenkamp's took him under their wing while he was in Port Elizabeth for sentencing.

Pretoria teacher, Mutshutshu Muvhango, was jailed for the murder of 18-year-old Tshepiso Sithole, who was strangled with the cord of her laptop computer in her Gomery Street residence in Summerstand in 2011.

Sithole says he is at court on Friday to offer the same support the Steenkamps have shown him.

He says he hopes that Pistorius will be jailed for killing Reeva.

"You can't shoot and kill and say it was unintentional. That means everyone in South Africa can just kill and say it was unintentional. What is the use of the police arresting people and bringing people to court. They are disarming our police system, something must be done, this guy must go to jail because he shot and killed." says Sithole

Delivering his final heads of arguement, defense counsel Barry Roux told Judge Thokozile Masipa that Pistorius did not consciously act unlawfully
when he killed Reeva.

Summarising the judgment, Roux said the court had found that Pistorius did not subjectively foresee that he could kill a person behind a door, let alone Steenkamp.

Pistorius sat quietly crying as Roux reminded the court that his client had been unjustly tarred and feathered in social media.

"He was denigrated to the extent that all that was left was a rage killer, a cold blooded killer, a liar and everything that was horrible. He lost all his sponsors, he lost all his money, he has nothing. He has not even have money to pay for legal expenses."

State Prosecutor Gerry Nel began his closing argument and said the court needed to take note of the powerful testimony of Kim Martin, Reeva Steenkamp's cousin.

As the voice of Reeva Steenkamp, the court needed to heed her plea that Pistorius be imprisoned for taking the life of Reeva Steenkamp, he said.
