The criminal trial of Eastern Cape Community Safety Director, Neil Naidoo, who is facing corruption charges among others, is set to start in January next year.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate said Naidoo, and co-accused, Kenny Govender and Matthew Pillay, will take place in the East London Regional Court.
ID spokesperson, Sindisiwe Seboka, said they were accused of attempting to bribe their investigating officials with R3.5m.
She said the alleged bribe was an attempt by them to stop the ID’s investigation into a R69 million national police tender that they were allegedly involved in.
Seboka said the trio face charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Cape Community Safety Department confirmed that Naidoo, who was a long-serving official, was dismissed in March this year following a disciplinary process.
It is understood that he has taken his dismissal up with the Bargaining Council
