Cradock residents have formed a neighbourhood watch following a spate of robberies during the 2 two weeks, and Wednesday's murder of 51-year-old Hettie Philps.
A founding member of the watch, Franklin de Beer, says they will be working closely with the police.
De Beer says the police already have their hands full.
"We would like to get people to become more alert about whats going on. Things are not as safe as we assume them to be everyday, we had a murder yesterday. The thing is the SAPS have their hands full and we have been working with them quite closely throughout the night and this morning" de Beer said.
Warrant Officer Elmarie van Eck has confirmed the spate of robberies, especially in the eastern part of the town, and says Philps' killers are still on the run.
