A Cradock man has been jailed for life for the rape and kidnapping of a 30 year old woman.
Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Riaan Herselman says 28-year old Mzwabantu Mpayipheli, was sentenced by the Regional Court on Friday.
He says the incident took place in February 2011 in Holomisa Street in the town.
Two counts of rape and one of kidnapping were registered.
Still in Cradock - police are investigating a case of armed robbery, after a tavern in Lingelihle was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash.
Herselman says three armed men, wearing balaclavas, hijacked the tavern owner outside his house in the early hours of Monday morning.
He says the suspects tied up both the owner and his female companion, and forced him to take them to the tavern and open the safe.
Herselman says the robbers then drove off with the victims, and abandoned it near Rusoord in Cradock.
He says no-one was injured during the robbery, and no arrests have yet been made.
