Court bid by disgruntled ANC members to nullify EC conference, struck off court roll

An urgent application by disgruntled ANC members to nullify the party's Eastern Cape elective conference, has been struck off the court roll.

Eastern Cape High Court judge, Belinda Hartle, delivered the judgement in the East London High Court on Monday morning.

The application was brought over the weekend by laywer, Mvuso Notyesi, on behalf of four members who believed they were illegally excluded from the conference.

In her ruling Judge Hartle however allowed the applicants to take the matter on review if they so wished.

The ANC's provincial conference degenerated into chaos over the weekend when supporters of ousted ANC provincial chairperson, Phumulo Masualle, alleged irregularities and wanted the conference halted.

Newly elected ANC provincial chairperson, Oscar Mabuyane, now has the task of bringing unity to the governing party in the Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, Mabuyane, said proper procedures were followed during the weekend's elective conference in the province.

He said what had happened at the conference was on Saturday was a coordinated strategy to destabilize the ANC in the Eastern Cape.

Mabuyane said they are not intimidated by deliberate plots to destabilise the organisation.

"They are doing everything possible to explore all avenues to ensure that the ANC, in the Eastern Cape, is off balance. We are not scared whether it's a court of law or whatever, we are not intimidated by these kind of attempts. It's just desperate attempts of people who are in denial and people who cannot accept that the membership of the ANC has arrived to elect leadership of the ANC," he said.
