Courier driver hijacked in morning drama

File

Gqeberha police are investigating the hijacking and kidnapping of a courier driver and a co-worker in the city on Monday.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said the incident happened in the parking area at 6th Avenue, Walmer, while the complainant was busy with deliveries.

She said three unknown suspects approached the complainant and his co-worker with a firearm and forced them into the back of a Opel Corsa bakkie.

Janse Van Rensburg said the assailants took their cell phones and the keys to the vehicle before driving off with them.

“After a while the suspects dropped off the complainant and his co-worker near the train station in New Brighton and drove off.”

She said the matter was reported to the police and the hijacked courier vehicle was recovered at the corner of 5th Avenue and Heugh Road, Walmer, and the cargo had been removed.

Anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation should contact their nearest police station.
