Couple nabbed with stolen clothing in Jeffrey's Bay

A man and a woman driving a rental motor vehicle have been nabbed with clothing stock valued at around R15 000 in the parking area of a shopping mall in Jeffrey's Bay.

Sergeant Majola Nkholi says that at around 14h00 on Friday, a police vehicle conducting a routine crime prevention patrol spotted a silver Toyota Etios with Gauteng registration plates driving suspiciously in the parking area of a shopping mall in Jeffrey's Bay.

They ran the plates and decided to stop it for a routine check when it came up as a rental.

The two occupants were found in possession of new clothing items valued around R15 000 from various retail stores.

Sergeant Nkohli says the pair could not account for the items and were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.

Police also impounded the rental vehicle.

The woman aged 35 and the man aged 40 are being held in custody and will make their first court appearance on Monday in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court.

Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok, said there was a noticeable trend of criminals using rental vehicles.

He also urged shop owners with clothing security tags not to allow foil wrapped bags into their businesses as a precautionary measure.
