Counterfeit goods worth hundreds of thousands of rands have been seized and a 27- year- old suspect arrested at Kinkelbos east of Port Elizabeth.
Captain Andre Beetge, said property related crimes in Nelson Mandela Bay have forced the SAPS to focus on the main transport routes in and out of Nelson Mandela Bay in order to police the supply and transport lines of stolen and counterfeit goods.
At around 9 o'clock on Friday morning, Kinkelbos police station members patrolling the N2 spotted a very suspicious-looking white Toyota Quantum panel van driving without registration plates.
Captain Beetge said the vehicle was pulled over and on investigating, police found suspicious cargo items inside the van.
The vehicle and its contents were taken to the Kinkelbos police station where Customs officials identified the goods as counterfeit items to the value of R200 000.
The goods consisted of 180 boxes of sanitary pads and 29 boxes of yeast and were being transported from Johannesburg to Nelson Mandela Bay.
Captain Beetge said the 27- year- old suspect will appear in the Alexandria Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of possession of counterfeit goods.
