The former Glenwood House teacher who sexually groomed a child was sentenced in the Thembalethu Regional Court in George on Friday.
The 47-year-old Hendrik Fourie was arrested at his home by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in August 2017.
This after a learner, who was 16-years-old at the time, laid a complaint against the former teacher.
Fourie pleaded guilty to the charge laid against him.
Magistrate Eugenia Jacobs sentenced Fourie to one-year correctional supervision and three years direct imprisonment suspended for five years.
The court also ordered that Fourie is not allowed to work with or be in the vicinity of any children.
