The Department of Correctional Services in the Eastern Cape says that a cellphone detection system will be installed at St Albans prison outside Port Elizabeth.
This comes in the wakes of recent reports that a man accused of killing PE teacher, Jayde Panayiotou, had been active on his Facebook page.
Sizwezakhe Vumazonke's Facebook page has since been deactivated.
Correctional Services spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Zama Feni, says the cellphone detection system was introduced at Mthatha Prison with good success.
"We have put the cellphones detector systems at Mthatha so the next stop will be St Albans because we have seen St Albans and Mthatha are the problem centres in the Eastern Cape. The system at Mthatha so far is functioning well." says Feni.
