Buffalo City metro says it's looking at all avenues to keep the city clean.
This, in response to complaints about litter scattered around the city's streets.
Metro mayor Zukiswa Ncitha says at Wednesday's council meeting they discussed the possibility of roping in the Department of Correctional Services to have prisoners assist in keeping the city clean.
However, she says a previous memorandum of understanding between the parties has lapsed and needed to be reviewed.
Mayor Ncitha says they're also utilising the Expanded Public Works programme in the city clean-up campaign.
"If you have noticed we have a number of orange overalls but in the long term we would need cooperatives in our communities doing the cleaning themselves but in terms of urban set-up municipal employees will continue with their work" she said
