Police in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape are appealing to the public for help in tracking down the killers of two Walter Sisulu University students who were stabbed to death over the weekend.
They were reportedly attending a student celebration at the University's Nelson Mandela Drive campus on Saturday night when a fight erupted.
Police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Kwena, said one of the students who was stabbed in the upper body died on the scene on campus, while the other was found off campus also with stab wounds.
WSU spokesperson, Yonela Tukwayo, did not identify the victims but said one of the deceased was a third year Office Management & Technology student while the other was a first year Bachelor of Science student.
She said, "to date have had three deaths on campus".
In April a student who was accused of stealing cell phones and laptops from fellow students was killed when he was attacked by a mob and thrown from a third-floor balcony.
"We, are often as management, criticised for being heavy-handed when we beef up security and when we revert back to normal security and incidents such as this takes place, management is again blamed for being slack about providing the necessary security for students," Tukwayo said.
"But, we are looking into the matter and are working very closely with the SAPS and the student leadership because nobody wants to see the deaths of students on campus," she added.
