COPE in the Eastern Cape has appealed to voters to ignore the internal problems the party has faced and focus on the future.
The party has been plagued by leadership battles that eventually led to a court ruling that Mosiuoa Lekota be the president of the party.
In addition five of the Cope members of parliament left the party to join the ANC on Wednesday.
Cope provincial spokesperson Mbulelo Ntenjwa says those who are leaving the party are disgruntled because they didn't make the cut in the candidate lists.
"Now the time is for us to co-ordinate ensure that we get a good governance in this province. People who are leaving the party, it's a reality did not make it in the list process and find a space of all the complaints, interesting that some of them were part of the leadership in the organisation." says Ntenjwa.
Meanwhile DA provincial leader Athol Trollip has urged voters to ignore appeals by certain sectors to not vote or spoil ballots.
"The best way to effect change and bring about opportunity in this country is to vote. I would urge voters to vote for the Democratic Alliance. We have shown were we govern we govern better than the ANC and also we believe that we have the recipe and policies to create much needed jobs." says Trollip.
ANC provincial chairperson Phumulo Masualle says in the 20 years under the party's rulership there has been remarkable improvement.
"As the ANC we did very well over the 20 years, there's a remarkable progress that speaks for itself. We think that it makes good sense to vote for the ANC. We plead that they do so, and we trust they will think of the good things the ANC has done all the time." says Masualle.
