Eastern Cape Police have launched a manhunt for a group of heavily armed men who robbed a Post Office in Ngqeleni.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkholi says police were alerted about a robbery shortly before noon on Wednesday and responded to the scene.
He says upon arrival police were met with a hail of bullets and a Sergeant was wounded in the lower body.
Nkohli says the men managed to steal an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene in a white Isuzu Bakkie.
He says the bakkie was later found abandoned in the Mabheshe village outside town.
A case of attempted murder and armed robbery is under investigation.
