An Eastern Cape police Constable is due to appear in court on Monday for allegedly firing on the Deputy Speaker of the Eastern Cape Legislature, Bulelwa Tunyiswa.
The off-duty policeman from the King Williams Town Flying Squad was arrested following Friday's incident.
Tunyiswa was travelling with her family and bodyguards from Macibi village in Mount Coke to King when the policeman allegedly pointed a firearm at her car.
The driver however managed to take evasive action.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa, says the policeman faces a charge of attempted murder.
She says the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
