Cop gunned down at Cofimvaba

Eastern Cape police say they are working around the clock to hunt down two of the four suspects who attacked two police constables in Cofimvaba late on Wednesday afternoon.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, says constable Tandile Mlenga and student Constable Siviwe Majwede were searching for robbery suspects in Joe Slovo informal settlement in the town when they came under attack from four men.

She says several shots were fired at the two policemen, and Constable Mlenga was fatally wounded.
Mills says student constable Majwede is in critical but stable condition in hospital.

Two suspects were arrested and will appear in court soon on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Mills says constable Mlenga leaves behind his mother and two minor children. He served in the SA Police Service for 9 years.
