A robbery suspect has been arrested following a series of events in the Bathurst district Tuesday night which saw two foreign owned shops robbed and three police vehicles damaged in accidents.
The drama started at around 5pm on Tuesday when two men robbed two spaza shops owned by Ethiopian nationals in Freestone in Bathurst.
What followed was a series of comical mishaps that saw a hijacked car failing to start and two unarmed policemen hijacked of their unmarked police vehicle which the robbers crashed into an outside zinc toilet.
The men allegedly hijacked a female teacher driving to Port Alfred when they came across an accident scene involving a police vehicle and a private car.
A police spokesperson said the female driver used the opportunity to raise the alarm by crashing her car into a police vehicle attending to the accident scene.
One suspect was subsequently arrested while the other got away.
Bathurst police are investing two cases of robbery, four cases of hijacking and a case of reckless and negligent driving.
