The Police at Cookhouse are investigating a case of arson.
Warrant Officer Elmarie van Eck says police received a phone call at about 6 pm yesterday that a house in Joe Slovo street had been set on fire by angry community members. Van Eck says when police arrived they found a large crowd gathered in the street.
The police vehicles were stoned and police had to disperse the crowd.
Van Eck says the house was totally destroyed by the fire and that no arrests have been made.
She says police are maintaining a strong presence and that the situation is calm .
