Convicted double murderer, Morné van der Linden to be sentenced

Port Elizabeth High Court Judge Glen Goosen is expected to hand down sentence on convicted double murderer, Morné van der Linden on Wednesday.

Twenty-nine-year-old Van der Linden had pleaded guilty to killing his wife's 79-year-old grandmother, Catherine Stofberg and her 54-year-old son Kenneth Morar in August last year.

He however maintained that his actions were not premeditated.

In convicting Stofberg last week, Judge Goosen found that the murders were not pre-meditated, but he said Van der Linden had acted with intention to kill.

He also convicted Van Der Linden on a charge of theft for stealing Stofberg's cellphone.

The state has called for life imprisonment, while the defence asked the court to impose a 10-year- jail term.
