The British High Commission in South Africa is appealing to British nationals, affected by the raging fires in the Garden Route, to contact it's local consulate.
The Commission's spokesperson, Isabel Potgieter, said the commission has set up a call centre number and it's honorary council in Plettenberg Bay has started deploying people to the Sedgefield operation centre to monitor the situation
Potgieter said although it was very difficult to determine how many British nationals were in the Garden Route she said large number of British people live in South Africa.
"It is a popular tourist area but of-course we also have a large number of British nationals who live in South Africa and could be affected in that specific area" she said.
Potgieter also thanked the emergency services who have been working through the night on Wednesday to extinguish and bring the fires under control.
Affected British nationals can contact the call centre on 021 405 24 00 or call the local emergency number on 112 010 177.
