The newly formed political party, Compatriots of South Africa, says it has started engaging with the Human Right Commission of South Africa regarding the country's constitution which talks to the right to a protected environment.
The party said these engagements are centred around gang-violence where people classified as coloured live - with mainly those residing in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth affected.
National spokesperson, Yolande Le Roux said according to the State of Urban Safety in SA report, Cape Town is the city with the highest murder rate in the country.
Le Roux said this is presumably driven by gang violence which is exacerbated by the supply of thousands of illegal firearms to gangs.
She added that that the report also suggested that the driver behind gangsterism was the disproportionate access to alcohol, drugs and firearm which she said is more than double that of other city's.
She said according to the report, evidence suggests that similar firearm transfers into Nelson Mandela Bay have significantly contributed to the city's murder rate in recent years.
"Nobody as far as we know has taken a stance in terms of gangsterism happening in the Northern Areas and right throughout South Africa. Therefore we are calling on the government in particularily the Human Rights Commission to actually start an investigation into the gang violence so they can establish a permanent unit that can assist these communities," she said.
