Commuters robbed of phones on Algoa Bus

Algoa Bus says while all of its busses are fitted with cameras, it is exploring various other ways to better ensure passengers' safety when they board the company's busses.

This comes after yet another incident when passengers were robbed of their cell phones and other belongings on Monday afternoon, on a bus from Kariega to Gqeberha.

CEO Sicelo Duze says while it's difficult to say whether it's the same gang, their modus operandi is alike.

Duze says one of the culprits would board a bus in Kariega and would sit at the back of the vehicle.

He would then pretend to get off the bus on the stretch of road between KwaDwesi and NMU's Missionvale campus, but only to keep the door open for two other men who would then proceed to rob everyone on the bus.

He says during Monday's incident, the men were armed with a gun and a panga.
