The mercury plunged to its lowest reading in Port Elizabeth in 8-years shortly before sun-rise on Sunday when a minimum temperature of 0.5 degrees celsius was measured at the PE Airport.
Senior forecaster at the PE Branch of the SA Weather Service Quinton Jacobs reports that it was the same as the minimum on 29 August 2005.
There were 3 days with negative temperatures at the airport in this period, all of them in September 2008:2 September 2008: -1.1°C4 September 2008: -1.4°C6 September 2008: -0.7°C.
Jacobs said Sunday morning 3 July 2016 will thus go into the record books as the coldest day in Port Elizabeth in the last 8 years.
