The Coega Development Corporation says an estimated 2,500 jobs could be created through the R11bn investment by Chinese automaker, BAIC.
The CDC's Dr. Ayanda Vilikazi, was speaking to Algoa FM News on Friday after the Department of Trade Industry announced the biggest single automotive investment in Africa in 40 years.
He says in addition it is futher estimated that the Eastern Cape could benefit to the tune of about 10 ,000 jobs through the investment.
Dr Vilikazi says that they hope to break ground for the manufacturing plant in Zone One of the Coega IDZ by the end of August.
"The CDC is greatly humbled by the confidence that has been displayed with the investment of R11bn. This will certainly strengthen our position as the socia-economic development hub of the Eastern Cape," Vilikazi said.
