The South African National Defence Force confirmed that a civilian doctor has been arrested by Oudtshoorn police and charged for alleged acts of sexual assault at the SA Army Infantry School in Oudtshoorn last week.
The civilian doctor was conducting his community service at the Unit`s sickbay.
He appeared in court in Oudtshoorn on Thursday and was granted bail.
The SANDF said the doctor faces charges of sexual assault including rape allegedly committed whilst he was conducting medical examinations on two new female recruits at the SA Army Infantry School.
The Oudtshoorn SAPS is investigating the alleged charges while the Department of Defence will invoke its own internal processes to address the matter.
