The South African Civil Aviation Authority will be dispatching investigators to probe the cause of a helicopter crash in the Hessequa Municipality in the Garden Route.
One fatality was reported but the name of the deceased has not yet been released.
In a statement Working On Fire said that a Huey helicopter which was assisting in fighting fires raging in the Vermaaklikheid area crashed at about 09:45 on Tuesday morning.
Western Cape Local Government Minister, Anton Bredell, has also dispatched additional resources to assist with fire-fighting operations.
"Western Cape Provincial Fire Services have already deployed resources from the Overberg region to the area and the City of Cape Town fire and rescue services has been put on standby to provide additional backup if required," he said in a statement.
Bredell also expressed his condolences on behalf of the provincial government saying that "the family, friends and the community of firefighters are in our thoughts at this time."
He said the public is urged to report fire outbreaks across the province as soon as possible using the emergency number 112.
