The Civil Aviation Authority says it will investigate whether the SAA plane at the centre of yesterday's false hijacking drama in Port Elizabeth, was also at the centre of another false hijacking incident in July.
SAA flight 417 landed safely at the PE International Airport on Tuesday, but was however met by armed police responding to the phase two emergency alert sparked by the false hijacking notification.
No passengers were injured.
CAA spokesperson, Phindiwe Magwebu, says they are happy that the situation was handled according to prescribed emergency procedures.
"The CAA is going to be looking into what could have been the cause of a second false hijack incident that has been reported, especially because it involves SAA for the second time now. So now we will look into the crew and aircraft to see whether they were the same people" she said.
