Christopher Panayiotou's latest bid for bail fails

Port Elizabeth murder accused Christopher Panayiotou has failed in his latest attempt to secure bail.

Magistrate Abigail Beeton ruled in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's court on Friday afternoon that bail would not be granted as Panayiotou's legal team had not presented any new facts in his latest application.

She said she was of the view that Panayiotou had not presented the court with any new information, and that the court was shown the same arguments that were presented in the previous bail applications.

Beeton turned down the PE businessman's initial bail application last year and he subsequently turned to the Grahamstown High Court where his bid for bail was also refused.

Panayiotou is accused of been the mastermind behind the abduction and murder of his school teacher wife Jayde in April of last year.

He will thus remain in custody at St Albans Prison along with his two co-accused Sizwezakhe Vumazonke and Sinethemba Nenembe.

Their trial in the Port Elizabeth High Court will be heard in October and has been set down until early December.
