There has been a changing of the guard at the Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape.
Lusanda Sizani was elected unopposed as the District Municipality's new Executive Mayor during a Special Council meeting in Komani on Friday.
He replaces former mayor, Wongama Gela, who resigned with effect from 31 August.
According to a statement, Sizani, in his maiden address, committed to the smooth running of Chris Hani District Municipality, promising to champion service delivery.
"We will champion service delivery to ensure that much-needed services are delivered to our people. As the collective, we must function effectively and always put people first irrespective of our political affiliations,” he said.
Sizani further declared Tuesdays as water days with a particular focus on water services provision across the district.
He is a former local government councillor who also served as Portfolio Head for the Budget and Treasury Office in the District Municipality.
