Nelson Mandela Bay Flying Squad members have arrested a Chinese National on Marine Drive in Summerstrand who they suspect may have been involved in illegal abalone activities.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members received an intelligence report on Thursday that an abalone transaction was about to be concluded between unknown suspects.
They then spotted a brown BMW on Marine Drive but the driver sped off when he noticed police.
Colonel Naidu says the driver was pulled over and a 9 mm pistol with the serial number filed off was found in his jacket along with an undisclosed amount of money.
The 30-year-old suspect then allegedly offered police members a bribe to let him go.
Colonel Naidu says he was arrested on the spot and will appear in court soon on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as bribery.
